| Bandwidth | Bandwidth is the amount of data used by people when viewing your website. Our website packages have a monthly free allowance. Once this allowance has been exceeded then excess bandwidth fees become payable. |
| Domain name | Domain names act as easy-to-remember addresses for a website. Examples are: yourbusinessname.com or yourbusinessname.co.uk |
| E-Commerce | E-Commerce is a means of selling products or services over the Internet and getting paid via debit/credit card. |
| E-Mail address | E-Mail addresses are a unique address used to send messages in an electronic format via the Internet. e.g. user@yourbusinessname.com. |
| Hypertext Mark-up Language - (abbreviation: HTML) | HTML is the language used to display text and images on a web browser. |
| Internet | The Internet is a network of computer servers around the world all interlinked and communicating with each other. This network allows information to travel from one side of the world to the other by moving from server to server. |
| Internet Service Provider - (abbreviation: ISP) | An ISP is a business that connects your computer to the Internet. |
| Payment Service Provider - (abbreviation: PSP) | A PSP is a company or service which process online transactions using debit or credit cards. These providers are used in conjunction with a shopping cart and order processing system to provide an online retailing environment on a website. |
| POP3 | POP3 is a protocol on the internet for the storage on email on a server until it is collected by a users computer. POP3 mailboxes are usually a fixed size. As email is received on the server it sits in you mailbox until such time as you collect it. Once collected it is deleted from the server. If you fill your mailbox then no more mail can be received until you empty the mailbox. |
| Search engine | A website enables users to search for keywords on web pages throughout the World Wide Web. For example, Google is a popular search engine located at http://www.google.co.uk. |
| Secure server | A special type of server that encrypts the information being sent and received via SSL. This is the type of server that is used for e-commerce. |

| Web Browsers | A web browser is a program used to display web pages on your computer. |
| Web Page | A web page is an individual page of a website. These pages include text and photos and links to other web pages to make webiste. |
| Website | A website is a collection of text and images that are displayed in a web browser as interlinked pages using a language called HTML. |
| World Wide Web - (abbreviation: WWW) | A distributed hypertext system invented by Tim Berners-Lee. The World Wide Web is a network of website's interconnected using hyperlinks over the Internet. |
